The other side of tea

1996 Jiang Cheng Natural Storage Sheng Cha

Price range: 39.00 € through 65.00 €

The tea we offer was produced in 1996 and is one of the last classic productions from Jiangcheng. The Jiangcheng region is less well known than its neighbours Menghai and Mengla. It is located between two mountain ranges rich in old tea trees: Wuliang Shan, which crosses the Puer area where teas produced in this region were sold, and the famous Yi Wu mountains, where the first large puerh tea cakes were pressed in the 18th century.

The Jiangchang area is mainly inhabited by the Yi and Hani peoples, two ethnic groups who were the first to establish ancient gardens in Yunnan province. Here you can find wild tea trees that are over 1,000 years old, as well as tea gardens that are over 100 years old, showcasing the region’s past.

Its character, subdued and shaped by almost 30 years of natural ageing, takes us back to the teas produced in the mid-20th century. This tea bears traces of the old teas from Yi Wu, characterised by maturity; teas that are far from the floral delicacy we usually associate with today’s Yi Wu products; teas that brought fame to this region in the old days. The presence of large and processed leaves is reminiscent of the antique teas produced in the same region several centuries earlier.

Bouquet
A very rich tea, whose character changes with each subsequent brewing. The aroma has notes of wood – coniferous tree, the freshness of camphor, which is the charm of mature pu-erh tea at this age, and a delicate mineral finish. The structure is strong, giving the tea a very delicate texture.
