The other side of tea

2018 Hsinchu Oriental Beauty

This tea is a very inexpensive, good-quality Oriental Beauty (Dong Fang Mei Jen in Chinese). The leaves, originating from the Qing Xin Da Mao cultivar, come from different gardens of Hsinchu and its surroundings, located between 400 m and 1000 m of altitude, and harvested in winter. They are beautiful leaves, with the characteristic crimson hints. The tea offers an intense, very spicy nose, with a good aromatic complexity. The oxidation is quite thorough, so its character can remind slightly oxidized black tea. There is also a lot of roundness and many touches of honey, gingerbread, and nuts, with very light flowery hints. The aromas are generous and intense, long-lasting in the mouth.

Tasting notes
This Oriental Beauty shows a complex nose, warm and spicy. Naturally oriented towards yellow fruit (peach, mirabelle plum) and honey, there are also some nice flowery touches and fine citrus-fruit notes on the length, which enrich the tasting and lighten the typical character of this kind of tea.
